Wood

Wood. Black Clay. 2018

Throwing is one of my favorite things to do when it comes to art, so when it came to this piece, I wanted to combine something I love with something my mother loves: planting.

After throwing this piece on the wheel, I made draining holes on the bottom so that it would serve as an efficient flower pot. Then, I gave it an organic feel by carving lines made to resemble bark on a tree, and by making the rim uneven. Then, to finish the piece I put a thin layer of glaze along the "bark" portion of the pot and left the foot and rim bare so that it would contribute to the natural feeling that I had been going off of.
